Julia Alford-Fowler (b. 1978) completed a Master of Music Composition degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2005 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College in 2000. She is currently enrolled in the DMA Music Composition degree program at the Boyer College of Music and Dance, Temple University. She has studied with several notable composers including James Mobberley, Paul Rudy, Zhou Long, Maurice Wright and currently Matthew Greenbaum. She has been commissioned by Church of the Holy Trinity, Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia and Dr. Benjamin Leiby as well as past past collaborations with many fantastic musicians including world renowned bassoonist, Pascal Gallois, Astral Artist, Lidia Kaminska, new music cellist, Jason Calloway, the Momenta String Quartet and choreographer, Carolina Del Hierro. She was a participant in the 2009 “Dialogues with Darwin” Poetry Project with Network for New Music and the American Philosophical Society. Ms. Alford-Fowler has been a composition fellow at Brevard Music Center in 2008 and 2009. She is a member of American Composers Forum, Society of Composers and ASCAP. In addition to composing, she devotes time to organizing concerts in Philadelphia of music by herself and fellow colleagues at Temple University as well as researching topics in polystylism and gender issues in the music at the turn of the nineteenth century. Her music has been performed in Philadelphia, New York, Kansas City, MO, Wheaton, IL and Brevard, NC. Ms. Alford-Fowler lives in Philadelphia with her husband, Kurt.
